Participant Facilities

The National Institute for Health and Care Research Exeter Clinical Research Facility (NIHR Exeter CRF) is located on Level 2 of the Research Innovation Learning and Development (RILD) building at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Wonford Site.

The RILD building is a state of the art facility that also houses a number of seminar rooms, a lecture theatre and specialist medical training rooms for the use of both NHS and non-NHS organisations. It also offers on-site catering, via the “Fine Fillings” restaurant, which provides a range of hot and cold meals/snacks.

Research participants are mostly invited to either the NIHR Exeter CRF or the Vascular Research Centre (VRC) for their research visit(s) but may also be seen in the main RD&E Hospital building or at the St Luke’s campus of the University of Exeter. Prior to their visit, participants are provided with written confirmation of their appointment, detailing where, when, who they will be meeting, plus contact details and a site map. For some appointments we may be able to provide a parking permit for the Wonford site.

The Exeter CRF can be reached via the main entrance of the RILD building, either directly up one flight of stairs or via a lift located to the right of the main entrance. We can be contacted on 01392 408181 or via crf@exeter.ac.uk.

Visitors are asked to report to our reception desk on Level 2, where their details will be checked by our receptionist and the appropriate member of staff contacted. Our waiting area is partially secluded, with access to cold water refreshment and an accessible toilet.

Participants will be met by their assigned member of staff, who will invite them to one of our research rooms: either a single room or one of our 4 bedded clinical rooms. Several accessible toilet facilities are available and the nearest one to each participant will be identified. All rooms/beds are provided with a nurse call bell should participants require assistance.

The Vascular Research Centre (VRC) is a single storey, ramp accessed building located just opposite the RILD building. We can be contacted on 01392 403083 or via  crf@exeter.ac.uk.

Visitors are asked to report to our reception desk via the telephone situated on the wall on the right hand side of the VRC entrance. Details will be checked by the person receiving you and the appropriate member of staff contacted.

Participants will be met by their assigned member of staff, who will invite them to one of the single research rooms. These have accessible toilet facilities nearby for patient comfort.
